Micah, a junior at NDMU, was extolled by her professor as "a brilliant writer presenting essays that demonstrate tremendous depth of analysis paired with incredible prose skills." It is wonderful testament to Micah’s determination because English is her second language given her Filipino background and arriving in the US at age 8. Micah has an older brother who will graduate from college next year.

Serena, a Glen Burnie resident and the oldest of 8, is setting the bar for her siblings. She is the first of her family to attend college. Serena has known from an early age the wonderful lessons and joy that come from the love of reading. She elected to pursue a business major for the 2016-2017 school year.

Lauren is our first recipient who demonstrates passion for both English and Drama, the two disciplines near and dear to Clare’s interests. As Lauren excels in her English major, she was awarded the Moore scholarship for the 3rd year.

Kristen Gilbert Howe

Kristen Gilbert Howe

2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14 recipient

Kristen Gilbert graduated from Notre Dame in May 2014 with honors. She is working full time for Barnes and Nobles in Loyola University’s bookstore as she contemplates going to graduate school. Kristen had a busy 2016 when she married, moved to VA, and started a new job.

Katherine is a freshman at NDMU and as a 12-year old girl, she came to the US from El Salvador. Kat fell in love with literature when she was required to read and write a literary research paper on The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros in 9th grade. She is a content creator for The Odyssey, an online platform. She hopes to become a high school English teacher after she graduates.

Briana, the oldest of four, is a first generation college student from Baltimore City. Briana is continuing to succeed in her English major and was awarded the Moore Scholarship for the third time and is enjoying her senior year. Bri plans to continue for a 5th year to earn a Master of Arts in teaching.

Cara Corsaro completed her Master’s degree at Notre Dame in May 2014 and has taken a teaching position at Dundalk High School.

Megan Hobbs graduated from Notre Dame in May 2012. She is working as a paralegal and is thinking about attending law school. Megan is volunteering on the Moore Scholarship Review Committee.

Madeline Mask

Madeline hails from Stowe, Vermont near the Canadian border. She has an older sister, Helen, and a twin sister, Genny. Madeline loves books and reading and has a desire to share books with the world. She declared English as her major at the beginning of her college career. Madeline intends to put her degree to use working for an editing or publishing company or possibly in the marketing field.

Jasmine Brooks graduated from Notre Dame in May 2014 and is seeking a management position at Ladies Foot Locker.
